Phil’s Blog: Game 10 – Berks Catholic
Congratulations to Coach Wolfrum and the entire staff on Bob’s 300th victory. Coach will be the first to point out this a great honor for the program and recognition of the hard work exhibited by many student athletes and coaches. I am not going to belabor the point and much has been written over the past couple of weeks. It is a testament to the program – which, incidentally, should reach win number 400 next season – and the Spartan Football Family.
As Coach Wolfrum told the team after the victory last Friday, “I’m glad this is over. Now we can get to work on the upcoming weeks.”
Defensive Coordinator Tom Baldwin has been on the staff for each of those 300 victories. I caught these two after the game.

Do I need to provide more hype to this game more than it already receives?

District Playoff Picture
Here are the standings for District 3 AAA:
1. Lancaster Catholic 9-0
2. Middletown 8-1
3. Wyomissing Area 8-1
4. Annville Cleona 6-3
5. Bermudian Springs 6-3
6. Littlestown 6-3
These will be the six qualifiers with the top two seeds earning a bye in the first (quarterfinal) round. The biggest change was with Bermudian Springs beating Littlestown last week. Both schools have relatively easy final games so I suspect BS will remain in front. Annville Cleona beat Elco last week which was a bit of a surprise. AC fell the previous week to Donegal who was beaten the week prior by Elco. But, again, that’s why you play the games. AC finishes with 6A Lebanon (5-4). A loss could drop them into the fifth spot. The Spartans seem assured of a home game regardless of the BC outcome. I doubt a win in the Brawl will vault Wyo Area into a top two spot. I do believe, however, that LC and Middletown may switch places. LC is .009 rating points ahead of Middletown and plays winless Pequea Valley while the Blue Raiders have 5A Palmyra (8-1). I’ve given up trying to figure out the district’s mathematical formula but think that supposition will prove correct.
My guess is the Spartans will finish in the third spot and host Littlestown at the “A” Field on November 3rd.
Who Am I?
Hunter Beane once again – third consecutive week – was quick to identify Tyler Rank. He was just a little quicker to answer than Kim Rank, Tyler’s mom.
Okay, Hunter, can you go four consecutive weeks? Hands on your buzzers…
Who Am I?
A big week for Tyler Rank as “The Tank” won Week 4 of the regular season nickname poll. Tyler also had the highest vote total in the regular season, followed by Steve “Manu” O’Neil and Matt “Cement Head” Hartman.
For the final round, I’ve included the top ten vote getters in the regular season. The winner of this Final Round will be the champion. Vote for three.
** Final Round Nickname Voting is Now Closed **
To the winner, I’ve decided to name this the “Papa Dick” Hoffmaster Award because Richard probably came up with half of these nicknames.
What The Football? Picks
There is only one game this weekend.
Make it a great day to be a Spartan.
Talk at you Saturday. I’ll be the dry one.
